Horticulture Training

Training in a wide variety of Gardening Skills

This provides horticulture training to adults with physical and learning disabilities with opportunities for working in the community at locations like Painshill Park, Cobham and Cherkley Court, Leatherhead.

The aims are to:
  • Build on existing skills and provide the opportunity to gain a wide range of new skills
  • Enhance self confidence and personal fulfilment through enjoyable and productive gardening work
  • Increase opportunities for paid or voluntary jobs in horticulture related careers
  • Provide training to achieve nationally recognised qualifications
  • Offer rewarding opportunities to volunteers who gain valuable experience in horticulture and training

Each person is valued as an active member of the Growing People Team

Qualified tutors, supported by a team of volunteers, offer vocational skills training in many aspects of horticulture. Chemical free fruit and vegetables are produced in the Victorian Walled Garden. Potted herbs, annuals and perennials are cultivated in the poly tunnel, greenhouse and rose and herb areas. Garden maintenance skills are developed throughout the 15 acre site.

This training leads to individuals gaining Certificates of Achievement at every level, from planting seeds to using a hedge trimmer.

Individuals are encouraged to achieve paid or voluntary jobs in the community as part of a varied weekly programme. Our Work Experience Co-ordinator forges and develops links with host employers, providing continuing support.

The Garden Team offers a professional garden maintenance service to the public as part of the work experience programme.

Plants, fruit and vegetables are sold on site to the general public. Retailing experience adds to the skills acquired.
