Small Group Living
Accommodation with 24 hour Care
The Grange's Small Group Living is registered with the Commission for Social Care Inspection and offers 52 weeks residential care to adults with physical and learning disabilities.
Gloucester Lodge offers accommodation for three groups of five people, each with a single room with en suite shower and toilet facilities, shared communal sitting room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom and laundry facilities. All rooms are wheelchair accessible and have 24 hour alarm call access to the Care Staff team; all meals are provided but some residents can choose to self-cater if they wish. The adjoining Victoria Lodge offers accommodation in five individual flatlets, for those people who are developing their independence.
The aim is to provide as homely an atmosphere as possible, building on every resident's skills and abilities to give them a sense of well-being and self worth. Privacy and individuality are respected at all times. Maximum appropriate independence is fostered and active participation in the running of the home is encouraged.
Health services
A full range of health services is available to all residents including a GP, a visiting physiotherapist, a local dentist, optician and chiropodist as needed.
Social activity programme
A programme of social activities including Riding for the Disabled, swimming and a social club are arranged on a weekly basis. Residents are encouraged to be active in the community; shopping, socialising, attending theatres, clubs and churches as appropriate. All have access to the splendid 15 acre grounds and leisure facilities of The Grange including a heated swimming pool and Jacuzzi.
Integrating life and work skills
Life Skills training sessions are offered as part of the day time personal programmes and include specialist training in Literacy, Numeracy, Money Management, Cookery and Nutrition, Laundry, Personal Care, Cleaning of personal space, Safety matters, Social skills and Communication skills. A constructive programme of Skills Training for our Creative Textiles and Horticulture teams gives a sense of job satisfaction in an adult world which may also be exercised by helping with office, catering and retailing skills.
Broadening experiences
Residents are also encouraged to attend courses at local Adult Education Centres and if appropriate, to offer themselves as volunteers to local organisations such as charity shops, playgroups, schools and homes for the elderly.
There is the possibility, following the appropriate training that residents can progress and become tenants of our Housing Association here, with continuing support from our Living Support staff team.
Each client has a care plan which is regularly reviewed. Annual Reviews take place with each resident and their care manager. Progress is monitored on a regular basis by the keyworker and the staff team.
All residents need to have a financial package before placement starts. Informal visits can be arranged by appointment.
