Training in Needlework, Embroidery and Crafts

We provide textiles training to adults with physical and learning disabilities and opportunities for volunteers to participate in a dynamic community project.

The Creative Expression aims to:

• Encourage every individual to develop new skills and achieve their potential through full involvement in each project from initial design to finished product
• Enhance self-confidence and personal fulfilment
• Increase opportunities for paid or voluntary jobs in the locality
• Provide training to achieve nationally recognised qualifications
• Offer rewarding opportunities for volunteers who gain valuable experience in textiles, crafts and training

Each person is valued as an integral part of the Creative Expression team.

Professional tutors, supported by dedicated volunteers, offer a high standard of skills training in Needlework, Embroidery and Crafts. The Grange has a long established reputation for fine needlework and innovative crafts.

An immediate aim is to offer structured training programmes with nationally recognised qualifications throughout Creative Expression. In Needlework and Embroidery each person is given the opportunity to use computerised embroidery machines, thereby building knowledge of both traditional and modern methods of needlework.

In the Craft Room a wide range of techniques is employed including hand-painted silk, wall hangings and cards; other creative projects include jewellery, tapestry and paper making. All projects encourage imagination and originality, using a range of inspiring colours and materials.

A regular supply of unique needlework and craft goods is produced for sale, from embroidered cards and kitchen accessories to hand-painted silk scarves and embossed notelets. These are also displayed at exhibitions and a local craft gallery. The shop also provides trainees with the opportunities to acquire retailing skills.
