Why did I become a volunteer?
I had just retired and missed the company of people, so one day on a walk past The Grange, I popped in to find out more about volunteering.
I was introduced to Karen, the Volunteer Co ordinator, who showed me around and I met people who are supported by The Grange.
It was magic!
If you want to have fun, learn new tricks and get to know some lovely people, then you should join us.
I’m part of the horticultural group. We work in all weathers, rain, snow, cold and heat, but I love it. I’ve learnt such a lot and helping people we support is really worthwhile.
We show people we support how to sow, plant, harvest and learn about plants. The horticultural staff are a great group of people, we go for meals at the local pub every few weeks and have a good laugh.
Every year we have a volunteers ‘thank you’ buffet when we get to meet all the other volunteers and we’re waited on by the staff and spoilt rotten!
It’s so worthwhile helping people with learning and physical difficulties and to see them blossom. I can recommend it to everyone, or I wouldn’t have stayed for 10 years!
