The mug printing press is a new creative arts venture at The Grange thanks to funding from the Worshipful Company of Broderers.  It’s actually a small heated printing press. Mug designs are printed onto special heat sensitive paper, wrapped around the mug and placed in the press where heat is applied.

‘We got the idea from a visit to Treloar College,’ says Senior Textiles Tutor Helen Hughes, ‘and we got  an order almost immediately we bought the press.

'The Orpheus Centre in Godstone is a charity very similar to us.  Their students had created some beautiful designs for mugs to sell for fundraising purposes at their open day.

'We took their designs and made 50 mugs for them and they are selling well. Since then the orders keep coming,’ says Helen,’ we’ve now teamed up with our fudge enterprise and are selling mugs with fudge inside. We called them ‘mudges’.'

The mug press project is going from strength to strength with orders for anniversary and birthday mugs. They cost just £5 with a reduction for larger orders.
