I have been volunteering at The Grange Centre for the last 16 years working in the horticulture centre and the walled garden.
Prior to taking an early retirement in March 2017 I was a Eurostar train driver working shifts which gave me the opportunity to volunteer at The Grange on different days of the week as my work pattern allowed. I now volunteer on a regular basis which makes it easier for staff to plan their rota.
I can thoroughly recommend volunteering at The Grange Centre. It’s a great place to be with so many lovely people both staff and the people we support. It feels like a big family. I get a great deal more out of it than I put in and particularly enjoy working in horticulture as this was already a hobby of mine.
It is certainly a very different place to work compared with driving trains. The interaction with the people we support is particularly rewarding.
I am also pleased to add that my wife, who is semi-retired, has followed in my footsteps and is now volunteering at The Grange although she has chosen to assist in the computer suite rather than horticulture. She is finding volunteering to be most enjoyable.
