Purpose of the Role:

To operate as part of a small team, ensuring the maintenance, presentation and development of our grounds and gardens is maintained to the highest standard at all times.



Organise and carry out the work appropriate to the gardens on your own initiative or according to instructions from the Cleaning and Grounds Supervisor. Day to day duties include:

  • Ensure the lawns are regularly mown with neat edges
  • Keep all hedges trimmed as necessary
  • Sweep up leaves
  • Carry out weed, pest and disease control where and when appropriate, or as directed
  • Ensure the paths, gates and other hard landscaping are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness

 Be aware of the health, safety and welfare standards for yourself, the public and the people we support, and report any hazard to your  line manager:

  • Cleari snow, ice and spread salt on the grounds
  • Maintain the equipment that is specific to the role
  • Undertake cleaning duties on an ad hoc basis i.e. due to the weather under the guidance of the supervisor
  • Attend training courses and meetings as required
  • Participate in the promotion of The Grange and its activities and work to enhance the good reputation of The Grange
  • Adhere to The Grange’s policies, procedures and behaviour framework
  • Carry out other appropriate duties as required by the Cleaning & Grounds Supervisor/Head of Housing.

  • Fit and able enough to carry out work required, i.e outdoor working in all temperatures
  • Ability to use and maintain hand-held power tools
  • Confident in communicating to work colleagues, the people we support and visitors
  • Read and write English language
  • Good team worker
  • Able to work on own initiative
  • Gardening experience
  • Attention to detail
  • Reliable and trustworthy
  • Thorough and efficient at getting tasks done in the required timescale


  • Understanding of a Social Care environment
  • Horticulture knowledge
