A friend told me about support work. I’d just left University and didn’t have a job so I just assumed I would end up in retail or something. Care work is much better.
I enjoy working with people I would never normally meet and playing a small part in helping them improve their life. There’s lots of activities and we’re not stuck in an office.
Some people with learning disabilities can have challenging behaviour but I can easily get help from colleagues
If you don’t feel sure yet about what you want to do careerwise, care work gives you lots of training and experience which you can use in other jobs. I’m happy I fell into this job – it’s really working out well for me.
