Day placement key worker in our Skills and Activities department

Purpose of the Role

To support people with learning disabilities who come to The Grange for a range of training and activities. The role involves working one-to-one with people in their activities (catering, horticulture, IT or creative arts) both on and off our site. No qualifications are required, we give you full training and you will work under the guidance of the Programme Co-ordinator in the Skills and Activities department.

Main Responsibilities:

To work within the Skills and Activities team providing support to people we support on a one-to-one basis during skill sessions and activities - including those held off site

Identifying each person's needs

  • Liaise with Grange tutors and staff with regards to how to adapt and support each individual during their sessions, using a person centred approach
  • Liaise with other departments to identify the needs of the people we support and work together to achieve these goals
  • Liaise with external agencies and develop a positive working relationship with families and friends of the people we support

Day to day support 

  • Help people with taxi drop offs and collections
  • Assist with trips out, contributing to all relevant paperwork needed, i.e. emergency sheets, hospital passports and risk assessing
  • Drive Grange vehicles as necessary
  • Support and lead in skill sessions as necessary
  • Support with covering lunchtimes for the people we support
  • Support with all aspects of personal care according to level of need, respecting rights and dignity
  • Recognise and support different methods of communication
  • To be aware of health and medical conditions of the clients

Paperwork and records 

  • Report absences and input register information
  • Have an input into assessments and taster day reports and reviews
  • Have a flexible approach to the working week, being prepared to occasionally work on evenings and weekends with prior arrangement

Training

  • Attend training courses as appropriate and to ensure continuing professional development
  • Attend and participate in team meetings and other meetings as required, ensuring good co-operation with all other Grange staff
  • Share your skills within the staff team and to support opportunities for the people to develop their range of skills.

  • Carry out other appropriate duties that may be required from time to time by the CEO/Line manager
  • Occasionally work extra hours or days which may include weekends at the department managers request.

  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and outlook
  • Willingness to learn new technology and equipment
  • Ability to contribute creatively with attention to detail

 Desirable skills:

  • Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to drive Grange vehicles and own vehicle
  • Experience of working in a supportive role
