The Grange Remembers

The Grange Remembers

A year after moving to the current Grange site World War II broke out. The School of Stitchery and Lace was requisitioned by the Royal Army Ordinance Corps @britisharmy for the mending of tents in the Grange barn and outbuildings as well as occupying the Garden Room, without any recompense; the principal states, that “the amount of rent was not decided upon nor have we received any!”
The pupils at that time proudly did their bit for the war by repairing parachutes for the Armed Forces or mending gas masks and haversacks. The greatest loss during World War II was the death of Miss Sweet in the autumn of 1942, founder of what was to become The Grange. #lestweforget #remembrancesunday #ww2 #worldwar2
