Tree planting for Sir Hugh and Lady Cubitt

Tree planting for Sir Hugh and Lady Cubitt

Today we planted a sargent’s cherry tree in the sensory garden in celebration of Sir Hugh and Lady Cubitt’s support for The Grange over the last 50 years.

Lady Cubitt served on The Grange’s Council of Management from 1968 – 2005 and many of her past colleagues who served with her returned to attend the event along with people we support. She and her husband continue to take a keen interest today.

A special guest was Michael More-Molyneux, Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, and the Rev David Ireland who blessed the tree and The Grange where it stands.  Robert, a Grange resident recited the very apt poem ‘Cherry Trees’  from ‘A Shopshire Lad’ by A. E. Houseman.

The tree planting was followed by lunch and entertainment and happy birthday cake for Sir Hugh who was 90 this year and for former School of Stitchery and Lace pupil, Peggy Brooks, who was 80 this year.
